Just Add Ink 187

Posted on

Yesterday was a very long day indeed! I did end up working all day and most of it was spent running around so I was quite tired when I got home last night, I definitely needed the extra sleep. I turned out to be a nice day and the event went well. It was held at the Carlyle on the Green at the Bethpage State Park golf course. You may remember that it was the home of the 2002 and 2009 US Open. The event space there is nice and large and has a lovely view of the golf course. I’m very happy that it’s over and that I’m nice and rested so I can enjoy my weekend. I’ll be off to Manhattan tomorrow morning for a bit but I do intend to spend a good part of the weekend crafting. How will you be spending your weekend?

My post for today is for the ladies over at Just Add Ink. A big thank you to them for choosing my card as an honorable mention for last week’s inspiration challenge. You can see my original post here, and the post for the winners here. This week we have a sketch challenge…

JAI Sketch 187

I was a little perplexed as to what I should do with it at first but once you start, sometimes it just takes on a life of it’s own. My card base is Smoky Slate Card Stock and for the background I used a piece of Very Vanilla stamped with the Snowflake Soiree Stamp Set in Soft Sky and Smoky Slate. Before I adhered the background to the card base, I heat embossed the “Christmas” from the A Banner Christmas Stamp Set in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. For the two panels I used some Silver Foil Sheet and embossed it with the Pretty Print Textured Embossing Folder and backed them with a piece of Soft Sky. Another piece of Silver Foil Sheet is cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered to the card with 2-Way Glue. To finish off the card, I threaded a piece of Silver 1/8″ Ribbon through a Subtles Designer Button and adhered it to the card with a Mini Glue Dot. I love the color combination and it’s frosty feel! And who doesn’t love those Thinlits? I appreciate you taking some time to stop by and see my Just Add Ink card for this week’s sketch challenge. I hope you all have a fun Saturday!

  3. I love what you have done with this sketch! The sentiment looks great with the bold ” Merry” across the card front and a sneaky “Christmas” through the gap. Good thinking Justin! You colours are lovely, as always. Thanks for playing at JAI this week ♥

  5. This card is breathtaking- it’s the silver paper that sets it apart! One question, if I may: is the Pretty Print folder just for Christmas, or can it be used year around? I can’t tell if the words are holiday-specific! Thanks for taking the time to respond to each of us.

  10. I like how you have turned the sketch on its side, shows versatility of sketches. I also like your use of the silver paper with the Expressions Thinlits. As an alternative adhering with the 2-way glue pen you could adhere some multi-purpose adhesive sheet to your silver paper prior to running through the Big Shot…just a thought. I also played around using greaseproof paper in my paper sandwich to make it easier to remove the cut text from the thinlit dies. Great card Justin and thanks for playing along with our challenge again this week.

    • Thanks Mae! I do use wax paper to make it easier to get the CS out of the die and I actually don’t mind the 2-Way glue but thanks so much for the tip! Enjoy your week!:-)
