Crisp Starfruit Stars & Little Sneak Peek

Posted on

How was your Sunday? Mine was pretty good for the last one of the year. I went into Manhattan in the morning and when I was finished with my appointment it was raining. That sort of dashed my hopes of taking a walk. When I got back on the Island I went to see my friends Kim and Kevin, Izzy and Savannah. We had some wine and Kim made ravioli parm for dinner. It was a much needed visit and Kim is just awesome! I also got to see Andrew for a minute. He has been very sick with the flu but is doing much better! I did manage to take one picture when I got to Penn Station. It’s not very exciting but it is the home of the new LIRR station, the former Post Office. You can see how rainy and gloomy it was too.

There is no Paper Players card for today. Instead I have another fairly simple card, sort of a collage with unusual fun colors. The base of the card is Summer Starfruit Card Stock. My background is a piece of Whisper White. I stamped the large stars from the Simply Stars Stamp Set and the small ones from the Banner Blast Stamp Set** both in Smoky Slate randomly on a diagonal. The greeting is from the Bring on the Cake Stamp Set and is stamped in Early Espresso on a piece of paper from the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper Pack. Another piece is adhered to one of the tags from the Stamp a Tag Kit and a piece of  Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape* is adhered around the end. Some Whisper White Bakers Twine is looped through the hole for the tie. I stamped another greeting from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set in Early Espresso and punched it out with the “Vintage” Large Star Punch.  Three more stars are punched out with the Merry Minis Punch Pack from Silver Foil Sheet and all of them are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really love all of the colors, I think they go quite nicely together and the Washi Tape and Silver Foil Sheet give just the right amount of sparkle. Thanks very much for coming by to see my card for today. I always appreciate your visits and love your comments! Have a good last Monday of the year! 🙂

  2. Interesting mixture and design. Clever stamping a sentiment on the star and snipping the part you want out. Like that you draped the bakers twine behind the tip of the star instead of just dangling. What is the LIRR station? The buildings have wonderful angles and lines. Ahhhh wine and pasta, yummy. Good that Andrew is feeling better, hope you don’t catch his bug. Don’t want to be down for any new eve plans. Have a smooth Monday.

    • Thanks Lisa! I do love a tag and anything to not let the twine just hang there! LIRR station is the Long Island Rail Road, it’s the commuter line from Long Island into Manhattan. Right now the station is under Madison Square Garden but they share it with Amtrak so they are going to get their own. More info than you needed! LOL! Yes, it is good that Andrew is feeling better and I’m loaded up on Echinacea and Vitamin C! Have great day! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin! Thanks for the picture for all of us. Even though it’s rainy, it still is enjoyable to look at! Does LIRR stand for the Long Island railroad? So nice you got to see some friends too. And glad Andrew is on the mend! This card is so iinteresting! Love it! I’m really into tags on my cards lately. Great colors as well. I’ll have to try this layout sometime, very creative! Hope your Monday is a good one!

    • Thanks Karen! There wasn’t much of an opportunity to take pictures, but I do love the architecture of the building. Yes, you are correct! Andrew had the flu pretty bad and on top of the surgery, not fun! I too love tags on cards! I hope that you have a very nice day! 🙂

  5. The city looked cold and wet – not the weather I’d like to be romping around Manhattan in. I have always loved the LIRR building. My daughter graduated from Hofstra and often used that commuter line to get to the city during her 4 years there.

This card is another great “scrap user upper” and I’m so thrilled you are doing cards that can use of that pile of scrap paper. I love paper and fabric and cannot bring myself to throw any of it away. Since you are so talented at it, I’d love to see a week of “scrappy cards” just like the times I see “scrappy quilts”. I must add – it gives me hope that maybe even I will use up that box of scraps. LOL

You have yourself a wonderful day, a fabulous New Year filled with good health, good friends and prosperity and lots of love.

    • Yes Grace, the city was cold and wet so it was accurately depicted in the picture! Hofstra is where my friend Andrew goes for Music. 🙂
Yup, scrapper upper cards are necessary! I like your idea of having a week of scrappy cards! I will do it sometime in the near future!
I had a nice day and hope that you did too! As long as my New Year is filled with all of you it will be amazing! 🙂

    • Thank you very much Lynne! I do love the collage style, it’s fun! I’m glad to share a little bit of NYC with you! Just wait until the warmer weather! Andrew is doing much better, he came by tonight to help with some stuff. He saw your comment and said to tell you thanks! 🙂

  7. Love the card!! I like how you put the twine around the star it made me giggle! My large vintage Star punch was Stolen! Now I am so sad because it works with new stuff!! Darn it! I hope your friend Andrew gets better soon! Did you get a flu shot? I got one two weeks ago my arm hurt for a few days, but my Doctor said it will keep from getting 4 different types of flu this season. 🙂

    • Thank you Shirley! Yeah, I love it when I can get a giggle from someone! That’s terrible about your Star Punch, I got mine from ebay, I am still looking for the little one! Andrew is much better, he came by tonight and has seen all of the well wishes. He said it so nice to see that there are so many nice people in the world! I didn’t get a flu shot, too many people I know get the flu from it! 🙂

  8. Another great card and it looks simple yet fun to receive. I like how you stamped and punched out the star and then mounted the silver stars as if they were floating. Please don’t get sick now especially after running around Manhattan and taking photos (for us) in the dreary rain. I Love NY! Take care and send hugs to Andrew to feel better! Nancy

Great design, Justin! I *love* the dimensional stars and tag, and I like the use of the sentiment on the large punched star. This card really pops for me!

You always seem to enjoy yourself in Manhattan and with your friends. Thanks for sharing your creativity and a look into your life! Always *love* your pix!!!
