SUO Challenges 90

Posted on

Well folks, we made it through another Monday! Woo-hoo!! Not much to report today, it was a pretty average day at the office. Oh, but someone in Mexico City had some Starbucks, on me! Apparently I was part of the Target Identity Fraud debacle. Here’s my question, how can I be in New York buying something at 8:30 and then in Mexico City buying something at 11:15? Unless I’m hanging out with Scotty and Spock, I don’t think that’s possible! Anyway, a new card is on the way and hopefully all of that will be over and done with by tomorrow. How was your day, anyone buy anything on you in another country? LOL!

Today I’m over on the SUO Challenges blog, this time around we have a fun, Punch Parade challenge for you. I decided I would step outside of my comfort zone and put a big bow on my card today. I’m not a much of a bow guy, but it does kind of look neat. The card base is Basic Black Card Stock. The top half of my background is a piece of Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper and the bottom is a piece of Sahara Sand that I embossed with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. A strip of Summer Starfruit separates the two. I created my tag using the Angled Tag Topper Punch and some Basic Black. My bow was made using the Envelope Punch Board. There are some really great YouTube videos showing you tutorials on how to do it. It was pretty easy and actually kind of fun! Mine is made from some more Sweet Sorbet DSP and I used Sticky Strip to adhere it all together. The flowers are from the Petite Petals Stamp Set, are stamped in Pool Party and punched out with the Petite Petals Punch. Three Basic Jewels Pearls are adhered in the center of each flower. My greeting is from the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set, stamped in Basic Black and cut out with one of the elements from the Circle Card Thinlits Dies. All of the elements are adhered to the tag using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I’ve said it before, I really like the colors in the Sweet Sorbet DSP and the tag made from Basic Black is a nice change of pace! You should definitely head on over to the SUO Design Team blog to see what the other Design Team members have come up with for this challenge! We’d love to see your submissions as well, so enter your card in the gallery! As always I appreciate you stopping by and I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

Great design, Justin! I love the way the embossed Sahara Sand echoes the Sweet Sorbet polka dots and grounds the patterns above it. And of course, I always love layers and bling!

Sorry to hear about your credit card being stolen, but it’s good to know that the credit card company was right on top of the fraudulent charge. Glad the theft was caught before that bad boy or gal did too much damage.

    • Thank you El! That’s exactly what I was going for! 🙂
The credit card thing happens to everyone at some point I guess. The credit card company had no idea, I called them and told them. 😦

      Enjoy your day! 🙂

  2. Just can’t get enough of Sweet Sorbet DSP. The bow really sets off the tag. Nice card. Ugh, sorry to hear about your card being hacked. Glad you caught it. Oh yes, I noticed you changed the colors of the feathers. Good to switch it up frequently.

  3. The Sweet Sorbet paper is filled with light hearted colors, but I agree with you that the black tag really anchors this card! The bow creates great texture too! My favorite pieces are the Petite Petals! Love them! Glad to hear that your wandering credit account was identified and clipped. Luckily the individual only ordered coffee!
P.S loved your card yesterday with the blue , gold and pink!

    • Yes Beth, the colors in the Sweet Sorbet are great! I do like the black tag too and the Petite Petals are just fun! I found it ironic that the person used my card at Starbucks! I go there all the time, just not in Mexico City! Glad you enjoyed yesterday’s card too! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin! Sorry to hear the troubles with your credit card. Good to keep on top of things and check your statements often! Love your card! I’m really gonna miss that Sweet Sorbet paper when it’s gone although I have hoarded a few packages of that! 😉 I haven’t tried making that bow with the envelope punch board yet…I’m gonna have to do that. Yours turned out wonderful! We have a little more snow coming today…Yay! (not really!) I’m getting tired of it! Have a great day!

    • Hello Karen!
It’s funny because I don’t usually look at my bank account but for some reason I did yesterday. I too have hoarded a few packs of the Sweet Sorbet. The bow was fun and very easy to make. I’m way over the snow! We are to get between 3 – 10 inches now. Blah! Enjoy your day! 🙂

  5. Awesome card Justin! My daughter’s card was compromised. Apparently someone tried to fill up their Hummer with gas in Dubai! The person only got 3 out of her 4 number PIN correctly so it was caught immediately. I was speaking to someone in retail just recently who told me that the machines in the stores get switched while an accomplice distracts the cashier. Also, if your card goes into the machine too far, it will capture your personal PIN etc.

    • Thank you Anne! It’s good that your daughters card was caught. I had to call citibank myself! I have heard of the switching here too. We had someone that put fake readers on the train ticket vending machines at a few stations here. It really is annoying! Have a good day! 🙂

  6. Super bow, super card Justin! I really love using the pearls too. I think making the bow the centerpiece on the card was absolutely brilliant! I’d label this card a “happy, smiley” card as you just have to smile when you see it. AND it must be a great card because the above is coming from a NON Polka dot gal! I’d love to tell you that your problems with the charge card will all be over in a day or two but normally it doesn’t work that way. You must keep your eyes on every charge for months to come. These rascals know how to create havoc in our lives. Good luck and make sure you check your credit report a few times a year.

    • Thanks Grace! I haven’t used pearls in a while. I had fun making the bow and will definitely do it again. I don’t mind the polkadots in the Sweet Sorbet because the are random. The charge card is just a pain, so many places to update the number. I will have to be checking my account all the time now. I will follow your advice! 🙂

  7. Very nice card Justin! Now I’ll be hanging out on YouTube wasting time…(as if Pintrest wasn’t bad enough!)
Nice of you to treat the folks in Mexico to Starbucks… I’ve done the ‘get the person behind me a coffee’ a few times in the drive up, never did try a ‘get any random person in Mexico’s morning coffee’ yet… !!! 🙂 You did remind me that I need to scan my account again, though. Thanks! Have a great day today!

    • Thanks Kay! LOL! Sorry, like we don’t waste enough time on the web as it is! I thought it was pretty nice of me to buy complete strangers some coffee! Glad I reminded you to check put your account! Enjoy the rest of your day! 🙂
