Fab Friday 36

Posted on

Once again people, it is my favorite day of the week… FRIDAY!!!!! It seemed to take a little longer to get here this week, but I’m happy we have arrived. We had two snow squalls here today. If you follow me on Instagram (@jrk912), I uploaded a video of one of them. It was a brisk 9° when I woke up this morning and we are supposed to hit a high of a whopping 21 today! I would like my 58° back from last weekend please. Tomorrow morning I’m off to Manhattan for a little while. If I can manage to take my hands out of my pockets while walking around, I’ll be sure to take some pictures for you to enjoy!

What makes this Friday more awesome than last Friday? It’s time for the next Fab Friday challenge! This time around we have a color challenge for you…

Fab Fri 36 Sketch 2-28-2014

If you pay close attention to the colors, they are actually in the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. Remember yesterday when I said that I tried something new, that something new was using Embossing Paste. My card base is a piece of Bermuda Bay Card Stock and the background is a piece of Basic Black. The honeycomb pattern on the Basic Black is created by using the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die to cut out a piece of card stock that I used temporary adhesive to adhere to the background. I tinted the Embossing Paste with Crushed Curry Re-Inker and then used a credit card to spread it over the Die Cut. Once it was covered, I removed the Die Cut and let it dry. The flowers are from the Simple Stems Stamp Set, are stamped in Strawberry Slush on Whisper White and are cut out with the Secret Garden Framelits Dies. The butterfly is from the Nature’s Hello Host(ess) Stamp Set (apparently my stamp set of the week!), is stamped in Bermuda Bay and cut out with the Backyard Basics Framelits Dies. All of the flowers and the butterfly are adhered to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Trying out the Embossing Paste was definitely an interesting experience but I think it came out pretty nice! Let me know what you think in the comments. So there is my Fab Friday card for the color challenge. Make sure you pay a visit to the blog to see what my fellow Design Team members have come up with and don’t forget to enter your card in the gallery as well! As always, I greatly appreciate you stopping by and I hope you have a fantastic Friday! 🙂

    • Thank you Laurie! I love all of the colors in the challenge this week. The Embossing Paste really took the Re-Inker nicely. Yes, Staying warm is not going to be an easy task, it was so cold here this morning. Enjoy your weekend!! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin! Great card! I was wondering if you were using your Target credit card to smear the paste on the card??? 😉 I love the texture that the paste adds. I’ve been working with the hexagon die cut for my next workshop and I’ve got little hexagons all over the place!! Enjoy your Friday…best day of the week!

    • Hello Karen!
Thank you! LOL! How did you know that I was using my Target card?!?! LOL! I have a bin of little hexagons, all Tangerine Tango! I need to think up something new to do with them! I hope that you have a lovely Friday, it really is the best day of the week! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin,
Another great card! How did you like working with the embossing paste? Where did you purchase it from? I have been looking in my local craft stores to no avail. I really want to start experimenting with it.
I did try something that I have been wanting to do for a long time, and that is a mixed media canvas. I am waiting for a layer to dry and then I will continue building on it. It is really freeing creatively! That is one area that I want to use the paste in.
Thank you again for your creation, inspiring as always!

    • Hello Donna!
Thank you! I actually did like working with the Embossing Paste. I think a stencil would have been easier, the paper got a little wrinkled because the paste was thick. I bought it from Michaels. It is actually Light Modeling paste sold in the paint section. I googled embossing paste and apparently they are the same thing. The light modeling paste is cheaper too! It took the re-inked really well too. I have been waiting to try mixed media canvas too! I would love to see yours when you are finished! Lovely chat as always! I’m off to Friday’s for dinner, have a nice evening! 🙂

  7. You’re not alone Lisa, I hadn’t heard of the embossing paste either. Sounds like something new to try (we all like new toys to play with).
Justin, great card. When I saw all the colors in the challenge, I wasn’t sure what I would do with them, but you are always so good at making the challenges work for you!
Hope you have some warmer weather for your weekend. I do love living in Florida 😉

    • Yes Carol! I love some new goodies to play with! Thank you! Sometimes it takes a little while to think it through and sometimes I see the card in my head all put together! It is freezing here at the moment and snow on Sunday! Ugh! I’m really over the winter! I would like to live in Florida too!! 🙂

  8. Hi Justin! Cool card again…it’s so interesting to see you use something that is not SU. Does this mean you are trying it out for the next catalog? As for tomorrow, wear gloves, and then take your photos. Bundle up! Have a great weekend! Nancy B

    • Hello Nancy! Thank you! Normally I only use Stampin’ Up! exclusively but when there is a cool new trend that we don’t carry I need to try it! I think it would be great if we have it for the new catty! I will wear my tech gloves so I can still take some pictures with my iPhone! Enjoy your weekend too! 🙂

  9. Very nice, Justin. I’ve been a little reluctant to try the embossing paste, but I really like the look of it. And I can hardly wait for my Hexagon Hive framelit die to get here. Thanx for the great card. Have a happy fun weekend!
