Control Freaks March Blog Tour!

Posted on

It’s that time again! Welcome to this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour! This month our theme is Spring/Easter. Speaking of Spring, I’m hoping that the weather cooperates, I’m pretty done with Winter as I’m sure that all of you are too! If you are following the tour you have arrived here from the talented Debbie Henderson’s blog. This month I have two cards and one fun project inspired by friend Nicole from work.

Up first I have a fun bright card that definitely feels like Spring. The card base is a piece of Whisper White Card Stock. I took another piece of Whisper White and stamped it with the Simple Stems Stamp Set in Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight and Perfect Plum randomly. Next up is a piece of Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper. My greeting is from the Memorable Moments Stamp Brush Set and cut out from a piece of Elegant Eggplant with my E-Cutter. The you is from the Countless Sayings 1 Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Elegant Eggplant.  I used the 3/16″ Corner Rounder on the corners of the DSP and adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My flagged piece of Whisper White is stamped with a stamp from the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set in Perfect Plum. A piece of twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack is tied in a bow and adhered with a Mini Glue Dot. To finish the card I used the 1″ Circle Punch to punch out a piece of Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper. In the middle is a piece of Elegant Eggplant, punched out with the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and I used some Crystal Effects on it to give it some shine.

Next up is a card that reminds me of a country picnic. The base is Daffodil Delight Card Stock, a piece of Gingham Garden Designer Washi Tape goes across the top. Some Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper Is flagged and also used for the center of the Tea Lace Paper Doily, punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. The tag is from the Notable Notions Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo. I used the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies to cut it out and stamped the flowers from the Springtime Hello Stamp Set, stamped in Pear Pizzaz. Tucked under the tag is a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon that is flagged too. My greeting is also from the Notable Notions Stamp Set, I stamped it in Night of Navy on one of the Essentials Wooden Elements. Love that it fits right on there!

My final project is the one that I mentioned was inspired by my friend Nicole. She came into work one day with her Country Living Magazine and showed me this neat project. It was a set of coasters made from Mason Jar lids with some cork that was stamped with Staz-On. I thought they were so cool and would make a fun gift. I found some lids on Amazon and I already had a ton of the adhesive cork sheet. I cut the cork sheet out using my Circles Collection Framelits. The images are from the By the Tide Stamp Set and are stamped in Jet Black Staz-On. I decided that they needed to be dressed up a bit so I used one of the Mini Muslin Bags and stamped the lobster from the same set in Cherry Cobbler. My tag is made with the Angled Tag Topper Punch and still more of the stamps are stamped in Marina Mist, Soft Suede and Smoky Slate. I slid the coasters in and tied the tag to the bag. Pretty neat little gift right?! Nicole thought they were!

Wowie Justin!! A double-post day?!!! I had to scroll down & make sure LOL!!! I LOVE your ADORABLE DIY coaster set & matching gift bag!!! Both cards are so bright & Spring-y!! I especially love your color combo of Daffodil with Cabana AND Plum!! I never would have thought of putting these colors together but now you have shown me a fresh & fabulous way to make fun, floral cards!! 🙂 TFS!!!!

    • LOL! Yes, it’s an early post for tomorrow Laurie! The coasters were fun to make! Every once in a while I just mess around with colors, sometimes it works and you get to see it, sometimes not so much! So glad you enjoyed the projects!! 🙂

  2. Two great cards and a super cute project!!! What a great day! Thanks Justin!

  3. LOVE the coasters…great idea to put them in the muslin bag, too!!! Beautiful cards! Great job!

  4. Good evening Justin,
Both cards are really great. The first one is great for almost any occasion, and the 2nd card definitely has that country feeling. But the (lids) coasters are way too cute, especially if you have a beach house or live near the ocean.
Sorry to hear about your neck. How’s the neck feeling tonight? I know all to well about pain.
Well enjoy the rest of your night, and have a great day tomorrow! Thanks for sharing? Take care! 🙂 Donna

    • Good evening to you too Donna!
Yeah! So glad you enjoyed the projects! The coasters are fun and my friend Nicole does live near the beach which is what choose the stamp set! My neck is much better, thank you of asking. I’m hoping that you are doing better too! Enjoy your evening and have a great Thursday! XO

  5. Wowza!! You were on a ROLL!! Your cards are FAB!! (and I’m gonna start cutting me out some of those words with my Silhouette … you’ve been doing some GREAT cards with those!) Coasters are SOOO great! Such a fun matching bag, too!

    • Thanks so much Wendy! I love the Silhouette! The words are great! I have to expand soon though! LOL! I’ll be making more of the coaster, they were easy! Have a great night! 🙂

  6. Ah – spring cards, spring colors – just beautiful – so now all we need is some spring weather! LOL Justin, I can tell you live in the city because you made those fab coasters from an Amazon purchase. Heck, here we pick them up for pennies right at the grocery store along with Mason jars in the fall when we are ready to can peaches, pears and other stuff from the garden. However, now I want to ask permission to use your great gift idea. It is just the cutest little gift item I’ve seen in forever. Very ingenious, very different and definitely very fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing that great idea.

    • Thanks Grace! Yes, some Spring weather would be awesome! Ha! They were the cheapest on Amazon! I’m a thrifty shopper! Wait… pennies?!?! I need to come there! LOL! I hope to see the ones that you make!! I’m sure they will be fantastic! 🙂

      • Yup – I think last fall I paid $1.65 for a package of a dozen. I’ve noticed that decorating with Mason jars is very “in” now. I’ve seen lamps, floral centerpieces and storage jars for ribbon, buttons, etc. made from them simply by filling them and putting a ribbon around the lid. Pretty neat if you ask me. Of course I hope that doesn’t cause a rise in the prices for those of us who actually use them for canning food. LOL

      • WOW! That is a lot less than the $10 I paid for 12! Yes, mason jars are really “in”. I like the soap dispensers made from them. LOL! I don’t think it will make them go up in price, AC Moore has tons of them! 🙂

  7. OMG! i dont know where to start….. Love, absolutely love both cards, colors, layout etc. But those costers are amazing, I never would have thought about making that, now a definite CAS

  8. Awesome projects, Justin! Love the colors on the first one, you know I love the Gingham and doilies on the second, and the coaster gift set is just awesome! Love it!

    • Thank you Sandy! I know that you love the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper! The first card is definitely my fave! The coasters were fun to make! Have a great night! 🙂

  9. Okay, seriously, how is it I miss so many of the things in the catalog that you so expertly use? I was wracking my brain trying to figure out where that tag on the second card came from. And of course, the stamp was one I DIDN’T want……until now. (Curse you, Justin!) LOL

ALL of your projects are gorgeous and creative and fabulous, as always!

    • LOL! I’m happy to be the one to point them out to you Cindy! Ha ha! I’m so happy you like the projects! Thanks of checking them out! Enjoy your day! 🙂

  10. I too LOVE my Silhouette and you are ingenious with cutting the words! I’m still learning with mine (it was still in the box for about 6 months). What a fab idea and I love all the bright colors you used on both cards. Great idea with the coasters!

    • Yes Debbie! Mine sat in the box for a year! The words are my favorite thing to cut out! I need more time to play with it but the day job get s in the way! Glad you enjoyed the projects! Have a great day! 🙂

  11. Hi Justin. I live up in lobster country (Maine) and absolutely love your muslin bag. I never would have thought of that…thanks for the inspiration! : )

  12. Hi Justin! My goodness—you out-did yourself today! Great, great projects. I love both cards for the colors and the layouts! And oh my—that coaster set??? How cute is that? What a nice gift to give someone! Wonderful projects as usual!! Have a great day!

    • Hello Karen!
Thank you very much!! The card are fun but yes, the coasters are really cool! I will definitely make them again! Enjoy your day too! 🙂

  13. MaryJo Marshall

I love all of your projects but the coasters are my favorite. I have a “beach” themed living room and these would go sooo well. Thank you for sharing!!

  14. Such bright and fresh projects, Justin! The coasters with the matching muslin bag are adorable!

  15. Wow Justin! I think you just gave me the idea I needed for wedding favors for my daughters wedding! She is having a beach themed wedding and these will be perfect! Thanks for all you do for us stampers.

  16. LUV these projects, Justin!! I saw the coasters in Southern Living and thought about making them, but you’ve taken the idea to the extreme. So cute! What a great gift idea!!

    • Thank you very much Kathy! I was glad that my friend told me about the coasters. So glad that you enjoyed my take on them! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your evening! 🙂

  17. Hi Justin,
I’m playing catch up. This week has been crazy. So although I managed to look at your posts (I would never miss a day if I could help it), I haven’t had time to tell you how much I love them.
This is a triple header. Your first card is so bright and pretty. Your second card blew me away. Every time you use that notable notions set, I say “I have to get that”. This time I think I really will do it. You know I love your collage cards…
And the coasters and bag…. Awesome!! I love the By the Tide set. Actually I love all the nautical sets. OK, I’m done blabbing.
Thanks again for sharing!! You make me smile.

    • Hello Grace!
I appreciate you taking the time to play catch up! I had fun with these three projects! I do like the Notable Notions, I have used it quite a bit too! Collage are my favorite to make! The coaster were so much fun! I too love nautical themed goodies! You should know that you always make me smile!! 🙂
