Gold Tangelo Star Feathers

Posted on

So how was your Friday? Mine was pretty good. It was a little rainy during the day and quite muggy but I managed to have a very productive but not overly busy day at work. The best part of yesterday was that I was able to get tickets to go and see Sam Smith on September 19th! I guess they can be a little bit of an early birthday present to myself, the concert is just seven days after it! You know that I’m huge music fan and I get a little obsessed from time to time. I think that his album is one of the best that I have heard in years. I’m big fan of the words in songs and here are some from one called Make it to Me…

You’re the one designed for me
A distant stranger that I will complete
I know you’re out, there we’re meant to be
So keep your head up and make it to me

The album is called In the Lonely Hour, we all feel a little lonely at times, don’t we. It’s a melancholy album but I don’t feel sad when I listen to it. I think that it’s nice for someone to express things that we have all felt at one time or another. It makes us feel less lonely. The album is out Tuesday! I’m off to Manhattan in a few for the morning, just to wander for a bit!

Now on to the fun stuff! I had so much fun with the Stars Framelits that I had to play with them again! I did a funky card with lots of gold! The card starts off with a base of Tangelo Twist Card Stock. I used the Stars Framelits to partially cut the larger star with my Big Shot and the the entire one out of the middle. I cut a piece of Window Sheet out with them too and then a piece of Gold Foil Sheet. I adhered the gold one to the Window Sheet to make it “float”. A strip of Basic Black with a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape across it goes along the bottom. My feathers are from the A Happy Hooray Stamp Set, they are heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black and cut out with my Paper Snips. The pictures don’t do them justice, they look really cool unperson, almost 3D! My greeting is from the Banner Banter Stamp Set and is also heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a hexagon that I cut out with the Hexagon Hive Thinlit. To finish off the card I Sprinkled some of the Gold Sequin Trim singles across the card. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tangelo Twist but I do like it with the Black and Gold! I hope that you enjoyed my funky just for fun card for today’s post. Thank you for coming by, I really do appreciate your visits! Have a great Saturday peeps! 🙂

  1. Clever cutting with the Star framelits of the card like that Justin, and I’m also a huge fan of music and particularly like song lyrics. Sams’ are great.

Absolutely gorgeous card! TFS I will have to give this a try. Enjoy your day in Manhattan, looking forward to more pictures. We are off to Lake Ontario for the Sailpast on my boss’s sailboat. A little bit chilly but sunny. Have fun.

  3. Justin, Very cool card! Love the feathers embossed on black. A customer asked me to make a partially die cut card in a future class. She saw one with a butterfly. It’s a cool technique, I’ll have to give it a try.

  4. HI Justin! Love your card today because it’s different! Love the floating star! And the sequins are a nice touch too! 😉 I LOVE Sam’s music….it took me a while but now that I’m hearing him more often on the radio, I do appreciate him and think he’s got a wonderful voice. I saw him on SNL also but had never heard of him then. I love music too, all kinds. Certain songs just take you to places and times and I relate a lot of songs to things that happened in my life. Both good and bad. Have a great time in the city…hope you share a pic or two!

    • Hello Karen!
Thank you! Yes, I was definitely going for different! I do love a few sequins!! LOL!
Yeah! I think that Sam is so talented! You can hear the pain in his voice! I LOVE IT! He does do a few up-tempo songs like Latch with Disclosure and La, La, La with Naughty Boy. I’m actually listening to him now! LOL! I had a lovely morning in the city, it was beautiful and yes, I do have a few pics but they will have to wait until Monday! OMG! I got you package today!! I LOVE IT!! That was so nice of you! I wanted to know if it’s ok if I post it on Monday?! Your card and gift are awesome!! I really can’t thank you enough!! 🙂

  6. Making that star “float” was pure genius Justin! What did you use to adhere it to the window sheet? I have got to use the window sheet I bought like forever ago, just need to find where I put it! LOL I really like the look of partially cut images on cards and I need to look at the video one more time to make sure I know what I’m doing before I try.

Congrats on getting the tickets. How will you ever decide who to take with you..Taylor, Kim, Andrew, etc., etc. That would be the hardest part for me. I’m sure it will be great. You have yourself a terrific day in the city today and report in on all the fun stuff you did tomorrow.

    • Thank you Grace! I love Window Sheets and I don’t use them enough. I used Tombo for the Window Sheet and the Gold Star. I just went with it, I was surprised it worked the first time! LOL!
I’m so excited to go and see Sam! LOL! I will be going with Andrew, it’s his second birthday gift! Shhh! I will have my city report for you on Monday my friend! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin! Love what you did today on the card. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but could you please tell me what video Grace referred to above? You introduce me to new things all the time! I have stockpiled window sheets so I would like to use them and this project is what I would like to do. How do you stay so grounded with all of our compliments? The lyrics you quoted are sad yet hopeful! Enjoy the city! Nancy B

    • Thank you Nancy! There is a video on Splitcoast on how to do the partial die cut, Debby Hughes. I am so happy that I can still wow you after all of this time! I never take a compliment for granted. I make some crap sometimes! You really need to know that your comments are what keeps me going. I’m honored that you take the time to leave them! I would never take another persons time for granted. Big hugs!! 🙂

  8. What an interesting and intriquing card today. A bit of ‘outside the box’ for you. That is how I see it. I don’t mean it in a bad way. So like the way you cut the star. My brain doesn’t think of things like this. Wish it would. Have you ever thought of doing videos of your cards? Congrats on the tickets. Never heard of Sam before. Will have to look him up. What great birthday gift to yourself. Enjoy your journey this weekend.

    • Thanks Lisa! Definitely outside of the box, but we need to go there every once in a while! My brain doesn’t always work as well as I wish it would don’t worry! You definitely have to look up Sam! He’s great! Let me know what you think! I hope that you are having a nice day! 🙂

Absolutely *love* your design, Justin! I think your star design is especially effective using the partially cut technique. The gold floating star is really striking and the point of the star gives me a feeling of reaching for the heights!

  11. You had me at Gold Tangelo Star Feathers! That should be the name of a song. With your permission I’m going to work on that today. This is my 1st year for liking orange; it’s like a door opening on a whole new happy orange world, and I even like it with purple, which I have always thought of as an ol’ lady color. Thank you for tweaking our color perceptions. Happy middle of June. Oh, yeh, and Happy Father’s Day.

    • LOLOL! Ha ha! Thank you Georgie! That made me laugh! Please by all means get to it! LOL! Purple is an old lady color?! I don’t think I have heard that before! I think the more color we have the better everything is! Thank you so much! I am hoping to see the child tomorrow! LOL! 🙂
