SUO Challenges 101

Posted on

Today’s the day, or I should say tonight’s the night! If the weather cooperates I will be getting on a flight to Salt Lake City at 8:30PM. Andrew is going to come by today and spend some time with me and then take me to the airport. If all goes well I will land in Utah at 11:45PM. I did treat myself to a little upgrade to sit in the first row with some extra room and be the first one off the plane! I have a hotel by the airport for the first night, my roomie Brian arrives on Wednesday at 10:30AM. I’m going to meet my buddy Wendy for some breakfast and then head back to the airport to meet up with Brian! I’m very excited to go! Please weather cooperate! I did have a nice day yesterday. Got some crafting done in the morning and then Sandy and Heather both came by for some lunch. I ran some errands with Heather and then went over by her for dinner. We had New England clam chowder and grilled cheese with turkey bacon. After dinner we did a quick run to IKEA and it was pouring when we came out. We haven’t had rain in a long time so no complaints! I went back to Heather’s for a bit and then came home and assembled my new little storage drawer. All in all a good day!

My post for today is for this week’s SUO Challenges. This time the theme is Bows, Bows, Bows! I’m not a huge bow fan but I do like them occasionally. My card was inspired by one that I saw on Pinterest. The inspiration card used a die to cut out part of the greeting and we don’t have one like it. No worries, I used my handy e-cutter! My card begins with a base of Sahara Sand Card Stock. I used my e-cutter to cut out the you from a piece of Lost Lagoon. On the top of the panel is a piece of paper from the Midnight Designer Series Paper Stack. Under that is a strip of paper from the Gold Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper Pack. Before I adhered the panel to the card with lots-o Stampin’ Dimensionals I tied a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker’s Twine in the required bow around it. The banner is created with the Bitty Banners Punch and the “Vintage” Sans and Stripes Alphabet Photopolymer Stamp Set stamped in Calypso Coral. Some more Stampin’ Dimensionals hold the banners in place. I love the colors together and the layout of the card is just fun! I really hope that you enjoyed my card for the SUO Challenges Bows, Bows, Bows challenge. Stop by the BLOG and see what my fellow design Team members have created and enter one of your projects in the gallery. I appreciate your visit and if all goes well I will be blogging from Utah tomorrow! Have a great day my friends! 🙂

  1. Great card…love the e-cutter. I think my goal for the next month has got to be to get better at using mine! And of course, the bow just finishes off the card so nicely! Safe travels and I can’t wait to hear a full recap from SLC!

Good Morning Justin! The e cutter must be a fun tool. Love the dimension it gives to the negative letters when you raise them up. My bow making needs more practice, but the thick bakers twine ties beautifully as you have demonstrated!! Safe travels and don’t worry about the weather. At least it’s not snow!!

    • Good morning Beth!
Yes, the e-cutter is a very fun tool! I love that if I want something that we don’t have I can “make it”! I am not a good bow maker either but the Baker’s Twine is easy! Yes, it’s not snow which is good but it seems any kind of weather disrupts things these days! 🙂

  4. I love this, Justin! I’ve been struggling a little bit with Lost Lagoon even though I love blues, but this color combo is fabulous! Writing it down in my idea book right now! Have a great trip to convention! I hope we run into each other there.

  10. Hi Justin,
Great card! Love the “you” cut out with the e cutter. I want to get one, which one do you have? Is it fairly user friendly? I am not afraid of technology, but I would like something fairly easy to use.
We had quite the storm here last night, so hopefully it got it out of its system! I am sure all will go well. I am so excited for you! I know you will have a great time! Stampin’ Up! never disappoints! Are you a sample maker this year? I can’t remember if it was you that said that awhile ago or not.
I can’t wait to see all the pics I know you will take!! Enjoy each moment, I know you will. Where are you staying at? Hopefully close to the convention. Last year I stayed out of the downtown area and it was quite the journey each day. But we had fun no matter what!
Hope you have some time to chill before your journey begins!
Have a great trip! I will be thinking of you at 8:30!

    • Hello Donna!
Thank you! I have a lot of fun with my e-cutter! I have the Silhouette Portrait. It’s pretty user friendly. Once you get used to how it work it’s great!
As I’m sure you saw from today’s post things didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked. I’m sitting in Long Beach waiting for my final flight now. I didn’t get to make samples this year, maybe next!
I will have a great time once I get there! I’m staying with Brian at the Radisson again! It’s right next to the Convention Center. It’s always a good time! 🙂

  11. Hi Justin! Love this card! The e-cutter is really cool. Great idea to use banners to spell out part of the sentiment! I always enjoy seeing your creations. Hope you have a great trip. The weather in NJ is pretty stormy right now. Hopefully, by the time you fly out it will be clear. enjoy!!
