Paper Players 207 & Manhattan!

Posted on

Hi there! How was the weekend?! Mine was great! Saturday I was in Manhattan visiting with my friend Kim and her sister Angie and brother Michael. We wandered around China Town and Little Italy. It was quite busy down there, I think because they said it would rain on and off all day but as it turned out it didn’t . It was a very pleasant day, not overly sunny and comfortable. I have some pictures from my outing for you. The first one is of the sign on Mulberry Street for Little Italy…

Little Italy Sign

As you can see from the sign China Town has taken over a lot! We stopped in a bar for a drink and also did some Limoncello shots, what else would you do in Little Italy?!

Shots

That’s me, Kim, Michael and Angie! As we were walking around I saw this man with a cat perched on his head! Only in NY my friends!

Cat Man

If you gave him a dollar you could take his picture, nothing in the city is free! I wonder how much money he makes a day?!

I’ll have some more pictures for you tomorrow so be sure to come back and check them out! I don’t know if I can top the cat one though! LOL!

It’s Monday once again and that means that it’s time for the Paper Players challenge! This week Sandy asks us to use buttons on our project…

Paper Players #207

I decided that I would use my buttons in place of sequins on the card. My card begins with a base of Blushing Bride Card Stock. For the background I used a piece of Lost Lagoon and adhered a strip of the Flower Pot Designer Series Paper down the left side. A strip of Gold Sequin Trim is adhered around the back before I mounted the background to the base. To create my tag I used my ruler to mark of the back and then my Paper Snips and 1/4″ Circle Punch. All of the stamped images and greeting are from the Flower Patch Photopolymer Stamp Set. I stamped the leaves in Garden Green and Mossy Meadow right on to the tag. The flowers are stamped in Tangerine Tango and Crushed Curry and cut out with the Flower Fair Framelits. The greeting is stamped in Night of Navy. I adhered the flower pieces and then the tag to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My buttons are from the Brights and Regals Designer Buttons and are adhered to the card with Multi-Purpose Glue. I love the Lost Lagoon with the strip of Flower Pot DSP and Gold Sequin Trim! I think that it grounds the large tag nicely! Thank you for coming by to see my pictures and my card for this week’s Paper Players Theme challenge. I hope that you enjoyed the post today! Enjoy your Monday! 🙂

Thank you! I thought the cat guy was pretty funny although a cat around your neck is pretty unusual too! Have a great day in Austin! 🙂

  2. Good Morning Justin – It looks like the weather cooperated for your day in the City. I haven’t been to Little Italy in probably 25 years but a friend of mine went a few weeks ago and told me that all that is left of Little Italy is about 2 blocks. She said the rest has been taken over pretty much by Chinatown. Canal Street was always kind of the “don’t cross the line” between the two. Oh well, I guess you can’t stop change. Anyway, it looks like you guys had lots of fun and, after all, that’s what it’s all about! I have to agree with you that only in NYC can you find a guy with a cat on his head making people pay to take his photo! LOL Too funny.
You are so sweet to share your photos with us. I just love it.

I really like the “cute as a button” theme. I think I’d have to spend some serious time thinking about that one before coming up with a card The first thing that jumped into my mind was a baby card but I think the card you made is much better than that. I do believe in this case the buttons worked better than sequins would have. The Flower Patch set is one of my favorites and having them pop with the dimensionals is absolutely gorgeous. Thankfully you were still able to get in a little glitz with the sequins. LOL All in all a great job for the challenge. You have yourself a Marvelous Monday!

Yes, the weather was very cooperative which was quite nice! Your friend is right! There is only about 2 blocks of Mulberry Street that is still Little Italy, China Town is all over! You definitely can’t stop change. The Italians wanted to see and I guess the Chinese have cash! We definitely did have a lot of fun! I really would like to know how much money he get a day! Maybe I will take that up on the weekend! LOL! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the photos! 🙂
The challenge over at the Paper Players is fun this week, but I always enjoy their challenges! I was thinking a baby card at first and then I thought nah, I just use the small buttons instead of sequins! I will admit that I too am quite fond of the Flower Patch Set! The flowers are nice and bold and there are some great sentiments! Thank you my friend! I hope that you are having a nice day! 🙂

  3. Hello Justin! Such a pretty card today, love it! I especially love the way you made your tag a little larger than the tag topper punches. So clever! The colors are perfect together and that Flower Pot DSP is my absolute favorite! The designs are so versatile! Thanks for your pics of the city. Love looking at those. That guy with the cat is pretty funny! Yeah, wonder how much he makes in a day?? Hope the kitty gets some great toys with her part of the money he gets! 😉 Sounds like you had a great time. Have a wonderful Monday!

    • hi Karen!
Thank you! I do like a tag but they need to be different sizes! I think we need some Tag Framelits! I love the colors in the Flower Pot DSP, so much fun! The city was great and I’m gad that you enjoyed the pictures! The cat guy was just too unusual to pass up! I hope he is good to the cat too! I hope that your day is going well! 🙂

      • Oh man! Tag framelits would be awesome!! I think you need to drop that in the suggestion box for SU!! I know someone else has said this before but you should work for SU!! 😉

      • Yes they would be Karen! I would love to work for Stampin’ Up! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin
What a great card! I don’t think I would have thought to put those colors together, but they look great! I really like the blushing bride and lost lagoon together. This is why I like our dsp so much, they do the work of putting the colors together for us! I love the tag, it really is a bold statement but not overbearing.
Oh my gosh, Love the guy with the cat! Your right, only in New York! Thank you for sharing your pics with us, you really tell the story worn them.
I had a busy weekend, we went up to Saint augustine and went to the outlet mall, I got some really good deals! Saturday we went to a little Island in Titusville to see the manatees. That was fantastic! Yesterday I went to beach by myself and just vegged out and read a book, it was really lovely here yesterday.
    Have a great Monday!

    • Hello Donna!
Thank you! The colors in the DSP are so different and fun! I love using the DSP for color inspiration, sometimes I forget to use the actual DSP one the project! LOL! I think that all the other stuff on the card sort of tones down the tag. I do love a tag don’t I?!
The cat guy is pretty great! I wouldn’t be surprised of he made a least $100 a day on the weekends! So happy you enjoyed the pictures!
Ahh… a nice day shopping! I haven’t done that in a while! Who doesn’t love a great deal?! Manatees! That’s so cool! A nice relaxing day is what Sunday’s should be for! My party on Sunday was quite relaxing too! So glad that you enjoyed your weekend too! 🙂

  7. I knew you couldn’t resist sequins on a card! Love how all the colors and embellishments go together thanks to DSP. Thanks for the NYC photos! I had no idea that Little Italy shrank to such a small area. What a shame. What great cannolis! My cousins go to the Saint Something Festival (Gennaro?) quite often. I miss NY but it’s less stressful out here in the midwest country. Have a terrific week! Nancy B

    • LOL! You know me so well Nancy! Love the colors in the Flower Pot DSP! Yes, there is hardly anything left of Little Italy. It is the San Gennaro Festival, you are correct! I have been in the Midwest and it sure is a lot less hectic, but I kind of like that to certain extent! You have a great week too! 🙂

  10. Love today’s card Justin! The combination of Flower Patch and Flowerpot DSP is a match made in heaven – love how you pulled the colours out of the paper yet let the bold tag and flowers take centre stage. The buttons instead of scattered sequins work really well – the gold sequin border is a neat addition too! Thanks for joining us over at The Paper Players this week – hope your week is a fun one! Oh and the guy with the cat – how enterprising!!

*Love* your “Be YOU tiful” design, Justin! Your colors and card elements all go together so well.

LOVE the cat on the hat! I guess he doesn’t worry about the cat falling off because cats always seem to be able to land on their feet. That cat must love him. 🙂
