Wooden Spoon Goodies

Posted on

Last night was great! Andrew and I headed into Manhattan around 3:30 (yes, I snuck out of work early!). We went and had an early dinner at Nick’s, some really good calamari and pizza. I have been wanting to take Andrew there for a while, they have great food and he agreed. We walked over to the West side through the park and then took the subway up to 168th Street, There was a Starbucks so we got some coffee and headed to the venue. The concert was at the United Palace Theater, I had never heard of it before but it was nice place to see a concert. It’s an old building that is sort of like a Broadway theater inside. The opening band was called Broods and they are from New Zealand and sound a bit like Lorde, they were pretty good. Sam went on around 9:00 and played for just over an hour. He sang most of the songs from his album In the Lonely Hour and also did the cover of Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know, one of my favorites. He was just as good as I thought he would be! An excellent show!! We both had a great time and even were productive in the car on the way home. I dictated my blog comments and Andrew typed them for me! Here are some pictures from last night…

We were a little far away, so the picture of Sam on stage is a little blurry, didn’t matter we still had a wonderful time! As an added bonus, it was nice enough to have the top down in the card there and back! 🙂

Today’s card is a just because card that I have been wanting to make for a while. I went to the new burger place in Manhattan, Clarke’s Standard, a few weeks ago and kept my little wooden spoon that I got with my milkshake because I thought hmm… I’ll bet I can use that on a card. LOL! After some thought here’s what I came up with. The base for the card is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock and the background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped in Sahara Sand with the Hardwood Background Stamp. On top of that is a Tea Lace Paper Doily with some of the left side cut off and adhered with SNAIL to the background. My greeting is from the Oh My Goodies Stamp Set and is stamped in Chocolate Chip and Cherry Cobbler. The Cherry Cobbler one is cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits and the Chocolate Chip one is punched out with the Large Oval Punch. They are adhered to each other and the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My little wooden spoon is adhered to the card with Glue Dots and a piece of Linen Thread is tied in a bow with the tails left extra long. I have been trying to think of a way to use that stamp on a card and I think this works! It would make a nice card to go along with a housewarming gift or possibly a dinner invitation. I hope that you enjoyed my recycled spoon card, I wonder what else we can add to a card that we already have?! Thanks so much for coming by to see the pictures and project, have a fantabulous Friday my friends! 🙂

  13. Hi Justin! What a darling card! Love the spoon! Such a cute card. I have to get myself some of those spools you have your baker’s twine on. Love those! Glad you had a fun night last night with Andrew. I’m sure Sam didn’t disappoint you two. Looks like a cool theatre also. Thanks for sharing those with us. It’s a beautiful day here…a little bit windy but the sun is shining and it’s mid 70’s. Love it! Started putting up some of my Halloween things…ya think it’s too early?? 😉 Have a great day Justin!

Thanks very much! The spoon was a keeper for sure! I love the baker’s twine on the spools, all of the little “kinks” are gone from it too! I had the best time with Andrew, like I always do! Sam was fantastic, just like I knew he would be! He has amazing control over his voice! The theatre was fun, very different. It was sunny here but cool today. It’s supposed to warm up though tomorrow. It’s never too early to decorate, it will be here before you know it! Hope that your day was a good one too! 🙂

  14. Hi Justin:

I cannot tell you what fantastic memories this card brought to mind. When I was a child living in the large city of New Haven, CT, we used to get these little cups of ice cream, half vanilla, half chocolate. They were called Hoodies from the Hood Ice Cream Company and they came with a little flat spoon a bit smaller than the one you used in today’s fabulous card. I hadn’t thought about that for year’s so thank you for bringing back such great memories. I just love this card.

So glad you and Andrew enjoyed the concert. The theater is just gorgeous with it’s detailed walls and awesome seating. I’m surprised at what a sharp photo you were able to get of the outside of the theater at night. I mean really, look at those architectural details. Just beautiful. The selfie of you and Andrew really came out great. I have not had good luck with selfies………..I think my arms are too short! LOL

Friday is over – now go enjoy the weekend! 🙂

Thank you Grace! I’m happy when little things that I do spark a memory for someone! That sounds like a nice memory too! Mmm… I could go for some ice cream now!
Yes, we had a great time! The seats were nice and cushioned, a nice change from the norm. It was a nice old theatre, very ornately decorated. You would be amazed at what great pictures my iPhone can take! I love it, I haven’t used a regular camera in years! I have ‘Monkey” arms so I am all set for selfies! You enjoy your weekend too! 🙂

  15. Oh what a night! Can you tell I’m so jealous? There is an old theater just like that about 40 mins from me. I’ve attended many performances there. Absolutely beautiful just like the one last night. I tried calamari when I was in Key West several years ago. Not as bad as I thought. Now your card is super über fun! Too bad SU doesn’t make an milkshake stamp. Wait, with your creativity bet you could come up with something. The wooden spoon takes me back a ways to my childhood. That’s a good thing. Enjoy your weekend Justin!

    • He he! Andrew and I had a great time! If Sam is ever in your neck of the woods go and see him! He was amazing! The calamari at Nick’s is definitely the best I have ever had! Not chewy at all. Thank you! I’m happy that you like my little whimsical card! Oh, a milkshake stamp is a great idea! I have Undefined and have yet to do something with it! It’s funny how the old becomes new again, isn’t it?! You enjoy your weekend too! 🙂

  17. Sam Smith, ahh! (moment of silence). I love those beautiful old buildings, too. Louisville has some great ones. As for the spoon, I think crafters look at every piece of interesting little scrap and say, “How can I use this in a card?” Really fun.
