SUO Challenges 102

Posted on

Another Monday behind us, I always feel a little better when Monday is done. I had a very nice evening last night. Andrew came by and picked me up and we went to Friday’s for dinner. After, we came back to my place and watched Divergent, he hadn’t see it and said that he really enjoyed it. It was nice to catch up, he has been quite busy lately. He was lucky enough to win tickets to go and see Jason Mraz the Friday that I was away at Convention. He had great seats and really enjoyed himself. An evening spent with a good friend, doesn’t get better than that! :-)

As always on Tuesday here are this week’s Stampin’ Up! weekly deals…

Weekly Deals 7-29-2014 1

Weekly Deals 7-29-2014 2

Now off the fun! The card I have for you today is for the SUO Challenges! This time we ask you to show off your favorite new toys. I was lucky enough to win what I think is probably my favorite thing out of the new holiday catalog while I was at Convention. The card begins with a base of Pear Pizzaz Card Stock The background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Hardwood Background Stamp in Smoky Slate. Before I adhered the background to the card, I used the Squares Collection Framelits to cut out a piece behind the “window” and adhered a piece of All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper. The background is then adhered to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My window is made again using the Squares Collection Framelits and a piece of Whisper White Card Stock. I adhered a piece of Window Sheet to the backside of the window for a more authentic look. The window is then adhered to the card with more Stampin’ Dimensionals. My wreath is from the Wondrous Wreath Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Pear Pizzaz, Mossy Meadow, and Cherry Cobbler. To cut it out I used the Wonderful Wreath Framelits. The flowers are also from the same set, cut out with the same framelits, and adhered to wreath with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I used my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in some Basic Jewels Pearls and put them in the centers of all the flowers. The wreath is then adhered to the window with, yes you guessed it, Stampin’ Dimensionals! My greeting is cut out using the Wonderful Wreath Framelits from a piece of Cherry Cobbler and adhered with 2-Way Glue. I went with a white wood background because I felt it gave the card a more wintry feel and I really love the way the wreath looks on the window. So there you have my card for the SUO Challenges: Favorite New Things Challenge. I know Christmas is a ways off, but I do love to play with some new stuff. I hope you enjoyed the card and don’t forget to stop by the blog to see what my fellow designers have used for their cards. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! :-)

Paper Players 206

Oh, the weekend goes by so quickly! I guess time does fly when you’re having fun! I had a nice productive day yesterday, I spent a good portion of it in the Stampin’ Galley getting some but not all of my projects finished. I managed to get four cards made yesterday and in between I did some laundry and the dishes. Not an exciting day by any means but they are good to have every once in a while. It was a beautiful day here despite the fact that they said we would have some rain, that happened last night, the best time for rain to happen. I also got to FaceTime with my cousin Tracey in England for a while. I love catching up with her and it’s so nice to see her when we talk. Modern technology, gotta love it!

It’s Monday and that means that once again it’s time for the Paper Players challenge. Before I get to today’s card I wanted to thank ann for selecting me as her pick for Cut Above in last week’s Monochromatic Color challenge. You can see the winners post HERE and my original post HERE. Now on to this week, we have a sketch…

Paper Players #206

I knew that I wanted to frame something I just wasn’t sure what and then it came to me! My card starts off with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock. The background is a piece of Park Lane Designer Series Paper that I backed with a piece of Blackberry Bliss. I used the Ovals Collection Framelits to cut out a piece of Soft Suede and then another piece for the frame. My image/greeting is from the Well Worded Stamp Set and is stamped once in Old Olive on Whisper White, also cut out with the Ovals Collection Framelits, and again in Blackberry Bliss and cut out with my Paper Snips. Next up are a strip of Daffodil Delight and two strips of Old Olive that I flagged the ends on. I Then adhered the frame, flower and oval to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I like the Well Worded Set with the sentiments tucked inside the images and the colors and patterns in the Park Lane DSP are cool and fun! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Players sketch challenge. Thank you for dropping by and I hope that you have a nice easy Monday! :-)

Hexagon Feather Hello

Posted on

Well, my Saturday didn’t go anything like I had planned. Not really a surprise, but I did a get lot of something accomplished. The arrangement of where my computer was in my apartment was making me a little crazy. It was sort of the first thing that you saw when you walked in. I don’t like a lot of open clutter, I’m fine with concealed clutter. LOL! So I went to IKEA with Taylor and got a new desk, file cabinet and bookcase. We had some lunch there too, Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce. YUM! I haven’t had that in such a long time! Have you ever had the Swedish meatballs from IKEA?! They are DELICIOUS! I came back home and put together the new furniture and then got rearranging and some more purging. My sister-in-law is going to take my old desk which is good because it’s a nice glass and metal one. I do feel much better now that the desk is in the living room and most of the clutter is contained when you first walk in. Not what I had planned but I’m glad that it’s done! What were you up to yesterday?!

After I got done with all of that, furniture assembly is somewhat tiring, I sat down and started to make a card. I had misplaced my container that had all of my extra pieces that I have cut out with my e-cutter but in my rearranging I found them! Today’s card uses all e-cutter goodies and no stamping! Gasp! My card begins with a base of Kraft Card Stock. I choose some Pool Party for my background and I put a strip of Washi Tape from the Everyday Adventure Project Life Accessory Pack across the bottom. Under that is a piece of adhesive cork, my fave! The hexagons are made from Baked Brown Sugar with the Hexagon Punch Digital Download, I cut out the outline omitting the inside. My feather is from the Feathered Woodcuts Kit Digital Download cut from some Bermuda Bay. For my greeting is used Coastal Cabana and the Moments Ago Stamp Brush Set. I brushed some of my Shimmer Aqua Painter concoction over it before adhering it to the cork. A nice fun mailable card that will make it’s way to brighten someone’s day! I do enjoy using my e-cutter and the cork, well we know how I feel about that! LOL! I hope that you enjoyed my quick card for today. I thank you for sharing in my day and stopping by top see what I have been up to in the Stampin’ Galley! Have a super Sunday my friends! :-)

Eclectic Wood Happiness

Well that was a pretty good Friday, I got out of work a little early! I even got see little Daniel yesterday for dinner. I did forget to take our usual selfie, I’ll remember for next time! I took a little trip to IKEA last night and got some organizers that mount to the wall for the Stampin’ Galley. I need to have certain things right in front of me like my Clear Blocks and specialty ink pads. I put them on the wall last night and I’m loving them already! Everything is a constant work in progress, continuously organizing to make it all work better. I still have a very long way to go but I’ll get there eventually! How was your Friday? I have a lot of projects to get through this weekend but I love that so it’s not a chore at all!

Today I have a card that has been sitting there in my little brain for a while. I needed to get the correct stamp set so I would be able to put it all together. My card begins with a base of Very Vanilla Card Stock. I took a piece of Sahara Sand and cut out part of a circle with the Circles Collection Framelits from the right side. I then ran it though the Texture Boutique using the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Before I adhered it to the card I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the sun from the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set in Crushed Curry. The leaves and the butterflies are also form the same set. I stamped the butterflies in Lost Lagoon and punched then out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch and the Bitty Butterfly Punch. A staple from our new Handheld Stapler* creates the body of each and they are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The leaves are stamped in Old Olive and cut out with my Paper Snips. I separated some Linen Thread and created two loops to put under the flower which is from the Choose Happiness Stamp Set. I stamped it in Blackberry Bliss and cut it out with my Paper Snips, Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place as well. The greeting is from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set, I stamped it in Early Espresso and angled the right side before adhering it to the card with a few more Stampin’ Dimensionals. I told you that I loved the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set and I think it works nicely with the Choose Happiness Stamp Set. They are definitely two of my favorites! Are you enjoying the Kinda Eclectic Set as much as I am?! I hope you are enjoying the cards! Thanks very much for taking the time to visit me, have a great Saturday! :-)

Pals Paper Arts 213 & Yes… More Pics!

Posted on

Oh my… guess what?! Yup… it’s FRIDAY! Woo hoo! I have to say that this week went by fast and considering I was at work on Monday for 13 hours that’s a great thing! I will be getting crafty this weekend, I have a bunch of thank you cards to make! I think that those are my favorite cards to send out! I really should keep a bunch on hand but I like to think of the person that I am sending it to and try to make it for them. That makes sense, right?! Last night my friend Maureen stopped by for a bit and after she left I put on some Sam and spent a little time in the Stampin’ Galley! Yes, I have decided on the name! Thank you for all of your suggestions! What finally made the decision is, are you ready for really corny?! I thought, I can can cook up some cards in the Stampin’ Galley! Pretty bad huh?! LOL! It made me chuckle and I hope you got a laugh too! So, I think that these are the last of the pictures from Convention. Unless you count the few of just me that I really like, but that would be a little narcissistic of me to post those. I don’t really like many pictures of myself but my friend Amanda takes amazing pictures. These are all ones that she took except for the first one, that’s her and I!

Amanda & I

She is a very talented photographer! You can see in these next shots exactly what I mean…

Pam & I

That’s Pam and I, love the black and white.

Maggie & I

This one is of Maggie and I, it just makes me smile when I see it! Was I right? Amanda is a pretty great photographer!

I really do love being with all of the people at Convention, it is a very good time, the best part is of course seeing all of my peeps!

Now it’s off to today’s card and it’s for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch…

PPA 213

Oh the possibilities! I actually took one look at it and knew just what I wanted to do. I was itching to get the Kinda Eclectic set and I need to get to using it! The only thing I wasn’t sure of was what colors I wanted to use. The card begins with a base of Night of Navy Card Stock and the background is a piece of paper from the Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper Pack. I spritzed it with some Night of Navy Ink before adhering it to the base. My three panels are all Vary Vanilla backed by Night of Navy and all of the images are from the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set. The top and bottom are stamped with the leaves in Baked Brown Sugar. For the middle I stamped the sun in Crisp Cantaloupe. My greeting is from the Something to Say Stamp Set and is stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Vellum Card Stock. I adhered the Vellum to the sun with some Vellum Adhesive. The top and bottom panels are adhered with SNAIL and the middle with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Two butterflies, also from Kinda Eclectic, are stamped in Blackberry Bliss and punched out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch. I adhered them with Mini Glue Dots and fluffed up their wings. The card needed a little something else so I adhered some 2013-2015 In-Color Sequins in the upper right and lower left. I love the simplicity of the layout and the eclectic mix of colors! And there is my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch! I hope that you enjoyed the card and the pictures. Thank you so much for coming by to see what I’m up to, I hope that you have a very enjoyable Friday! :-)

Freshly Made Sketches 146 & Danny

Posted on

It’s Thursday already! That is definitely a good thing! I had a fun day at work yesterday dealing with our Lobby TV set up. We show a loop on the TV and the things that we use now don’t work so I’m testing out new solutions and think I may have found one that uses Mac minis. Hopefully it will work! I was going to post more Convention pictures today but something a little more important was brought to my attention. Yesterday morning my friend Danielle text me this news story about a 5 year old boy that lives in Foxboro, MA. He is different than many other little boys, he has an inoperable brain tumor that is also chemo therapy resistant. It’s his birthday tomorrow and all he wants for it is lots of cards. So I thought well I make cards and I’m going to send him one. He likes cards with his name on them so that just what he will get. Here is the card that I made for him…

Danny B'day Card-WM

You can read about his story HERE and if you would like to send a card, it will be late but I don’t think he will mind, you can send it to:

Danny Nickerson
PO Box 212
Foxboro, MA 02035

And yes, I’m all teary eyed as I write this because I don’t think it’s fair for a 5 year old to have anything wrong with them. If a card will make him happy then a card he will get. Sorry for the sad start to the post but I just had to share his story with you. Sometimes a card is all it takes to make someone’s day and I’m happy that I get to do that!

Now on to happier things, today I have my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches

Freshly Made Sketches #146

I know that you are all not feeling the Christmas cards but I have new goodies that need some love so I did another one today! The card starts off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. The background is a simple piece of Soft Sky and I stamped my greeting from the Christmas Bliss Photopolymer Stamp Set in Garden Green right on the background. A strip of Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper* and a piece of adhesive cork sheet come across from the right. The image is from the Cheerful Christmas Stamp Set* and is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Window Frames Collection Framelits to cut it out and pierced around the edge with the Festive Paper-Piercing Pack. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it to the card and a few Basic Jewels Rhinestones in the lower left complete the card. I really do love blues for Christmas and Soft Sky is becoming a favorite! I also think it’s neat the way the image from the Cheerful Christmas Set fits inside the Window Frame. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. If you have some time send a card to Danny to put a smile on his face. Thank you very much for coming by today and I hope that you all have a good Thursday! :-)

Retro Sketches 124 & Still More Pics!

Posted on

I’m not gonna lie, I was a little tired today! I guess 3 1/2 hours of sleep isn’t enough! LOL! I’m going to make it point not to do that again. I did manage to drag myself through the day, it wasn’t especially busy which was welcome I can tell you! I do miss the lack of humidity in Utah. It was in the 80’s here yesterday and felt more like 100! I have a few more Convention pictures for you. The first one is my sweet friend Anita from Canada. She is so nice, she brought me Smarties and I just love her hat!

Anita and I

This lovely lady is Amy from the home office. She is actually in the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog. They featured her wedding pictures in the Project Life by Stampin’ Up! spread!

Amy & I

I still have a few more pictures to post and will add some more tomorrow! When I got home last night I sat down and went to make my card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew challenge and I forgot that we are taking a week off! I decided that I would try something new. I have always looked at the Retro Sketches blog but I have never participated so I thought why not?! Here is this week’s sketch…

Retro Sketches 124

I love the way they show the sketch, I think it’s really neat! I also did something that rarely do and that’s use a lot of Brights! My card begins with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock and for the background I embossed a piece of Melon Mambo with the Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My large flag is a piece of Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper that I cut out with the Banners Framelits. Some Raspberry Ripple is cut out with two of the Circles Collection Framelits and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. In the middle is a piece of Tempting Turquoise that I punched out with the 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch. My stamped image is from the Amazing Birthday Stamp Set and is stamped in Tempting Turquoise and punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. The greeting is from the Endless Birthday Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Pumpkin Pie, the ends are flagged  and Stampin’ Dimensionals hod it and the cake to the card. Finally I used my Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities Marker to color a Basic Jewel Rhinestone and I popped it on with the greeting. A very bright happy card, I love the ring around the cake and the greeting is just cool! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Retro Sketches challenge and the pics of my friends from Convention! Thanks you, as always for dropping by, have a great Wednesday peeps! :-)
