Paper Craft Crew 110 & Mixed Media!

Posted on

It was a little on the chilly side here this morning and it drizzled most of the day. It did manage to finally clear up by the evening and the sun did peek it’s head out for a bit. I had a somewhat lazy evening, I messed around in the Stampin’ Galley for a bit and ran a few errands but other than that it was a quiet evening. I do have something fun to share with you today in addition to my card. I love when you are kind enough to share some of the things that you are working on with me. We had Grace’s quilt and now our friend Donna has sent me some pictures of her multi-media projects that she has done! There are three different canvases, one has a picture of her adorable granddaughter, one is a small one (purple) and the last one is a beach. I think that they are just fantastic! It makes me want to finish the one that I started a few weeks ago! So here are Donna’s canvases for your viewing pleasure!

MM 1 Donna

MM 2 Donna

MM 5 Donna

MM 3 Donna

MM 4 Donna

Aren’t they awesome!! I really like all of them but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the beach one! You can feel the warmth from the sunset and almost hear the waves and smell the salt air! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us Donna! I really appreciate it!

It’s Wednesday right?! LOL! Well, that means that it’s time for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge…

PCCCS110 Sketch 9-17-2014

When I saw the sketch I wasn’t going to take it literally and then I thought that I could have some fun with it! I started with a base of Very Vanilla Card Stock. The background is a piece of Basic Black and I heat embossed the “Vintage” Off the Grid Stamp in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Next I heat embossed the Dictionary Background Stamp in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Very Vanilla. The greeting from the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set is also heat embossed with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Word Bubbles Framelits to cut them out and adhered them to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My stars are Gold Foil Sheet that I punched out with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and they too are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. In the end I’m glad that I did stay true to the sketch, I had fun using all of the heat embossing and love the simple Vanilla, Black and Gold together! Well, I really hope that you enjoyed the pictures of Donna’s multi-media projects and my card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge. Don’t forget to stop by the blog and see they other designer’s projects and let’s see what you come up with. Enter your project in the gallery! Thank you very much for coming by and I hope that you have a wonderful Wednesday! :-)

So how was your Monday? I have no complaints about mine. Yes, it was busy but not insanely so. I got stuff done and then after dinner I sat down and made a card and then just relaxed for bit. It’s nice to be able to do that, even though I always feel like there is something else I should be doing! LOL! Yes, my scary little brain is always working thinking about things that I need to get started on and finish. Never a dull moment inside my crazy head! LOL!

The card that I made last night is for this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch challenge. Here is what we are working with this week…

Mojo363

I wanted to show off the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper so I went with a subtle Halloween theme. The base for my card is Basic Black Card Stock. My background consists of a piece of the Motley Monsters DSP on the bottom and some Crushed Curry that I embossed with the Luck Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The next layer is a piece of Tangerine Tango on the left and another piece of the Motley Monsters DSP that I backed with a piece of Basic Black to make it a little sturdier. They are adhered to each other with SNAIL and to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My two circles, the larger one from Crushed Curry and the smaller form Tangerine Tango, are cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits. The October and 31 are from the Project Life Day to Day Photopolymer Stamp Set and are heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used my Black Stampin’ Write Marker to edge them. The large circle is adhered to the panel with SNAIL and across it is a piece of Basic Black with the right side flagged. A piece of White & Tangerine Tango Two Tone Trim is formed into a bow and adhered behind the smaller circle under a Stampin’ Dimensional. A fun yet subtle Halloween Card and if you add a sentiment would make a nice fall birthday or thank you card! There are some really neat patterns in the Motley Monsters DSP, I think it may be one of my favorites in the Holiday Catalog! I hope that you liked my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to come by and see what I have been up to and enjoy your Tuesday! :-)

Paper Players 213 & Pics!

Yup, there goes the weekend just flying by as always! I did have a very nice weekend though so I can’t complain. Yesterday I went into Manhattan and met my friend Kim for breakfast. We went to our usual spot, the diner but we had belgian waffles for a change. After breakfast we headed over to the West Side to go to a flea market on 77th and Broadway. While we were wandering around we saw Bernadette Peters in one of the jewelry stalls. It’s so funny when you see a celebrity in the city randomly. After we were done there we walked back to Kim’s apartment and I stopped by my friend Julia’s house before heading home. It was little crisp yesterday morning when I left around 7:45, I had to wear a sweat jacket. It’s too early for that!! I did mange to snap a few pictures in my travels which by the way was a nice 8 miles in total for the day! The first picture I took on our way through Central Park. It’s Belvedere Castle, I think that it’s a neat little castle and there is a visitors center inside along with all sorts of scientific instruments that collect weather data.

Belvedere Castle

Next up is a picture of one of the exhibits located in the Rose Center for Earth and Space that is in the American Museum of Natural History. It’s called Scales of the Universe and has scale models of the planets amongst other things. I took the picture though because I thought it was really neat how the reflection of the buildings and the trees show up so clearly.

Scales of the Universe

Finally I have a picture of the Great Lawn during the day. I did take one at night a few months ago. I love that you see the park and then the buildings rise up in the distance!

CP Great Lawn

Now off we go to today’s post and it’s for this week’s Paper Players color challenge from Anne Marie…

Paper Players #213

I’m not ready to admit that fall is on it’s way just yet but I do love the colors. The base for today’s card is Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock and on top of that is a piece of Blackberry Bliss. My background is a piece of Very Vanilla and I stamped my greeting in Always Artichoke from the For All Things Stamp Set. The pumpkin and leaves are from the Fall Fest Photopolymer Stamp Set and are stamped in Blackberry Bliss, Baked Brown Sugar, Always Artichoke and Cajun Craze. I used the Fun Fall Framelits to cut them out. The pumpkin and base layer of leaves are adhered with SNAIL and some more of the leaves with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love the leaves in all of the colors and the fact that there are Framelits for them is great! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Players color challenge. Thank you very much for coming by to share in my day! Love having you stop by! Have a great Monday! :-)

Freshly Made Sketches 153 & Pals Paper Arts 219

Posted on

Well, I didn’t realize that Andrew had hijacked my post yesterday! That was a nice surprise! He is also a great friend and wonderful person and I’m very happy that I have him in my life. He is always there for me too, but that’s what friends do right?! I always say that friends are the family that you choose and I think I chose wisely! Speaking of Andrew he was over bright and early yesterday morning. I went with him to take some baskets and other goodies to a fundraiser that he was helping with in Smithtown. We grabbed some breakfast and unloaded the cars. I unfortunately couldn’t stay as I had some things to take care of yesterday but he called on his way home and said that they raised $2,700 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Every little bit helps with the important work that they do. The rest of my day consisted of finishing up the stuff that I had to do and then I spent a little time in the Stampin’ Galley and created the two cards that I have for you today!

My first card os for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches #153

Super simple and I decided to go with the star image! My card begins with a base of Soft Sky Card Stock. The background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I stamped with the Hardwood Background Stamp inked in Crumb Cake. I adhered a piece of Cherry Cobbler 1″ Sheer Linen Ribbon around the back with Sticky Strip that I received as part of a ribbon share as a surprise birthday gift from the One Stamp at a Time Facebook group! How nice was that! Thank you! I used a combination of Fast Fuse and SNAIL to adhere the background to the base. The star image is from the Bright and Beautiful Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Soft Sky. I used the Star Framelits to cut it out and adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I cut the word joy out of a piece of Gold Foil Sheet using the Snowflake Card Thinlits for my greeting. Teeny tiny pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals hold that in place. Finally I cut out two sequins from some more Gold Foil Sheet and adhered them on top of the ribbon. I really like the color combination and that new ribbon is really nice!

FMS 153-WM

My second card for today is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge…

PPA 219

I immediately thought of a fall themed card and then I thought no, this is perfect for a nontraditional holiday card! This card starts off with a base of Always Artichoke Card Stock and a piece of Cajun Craze is used for the background. I cut out a piece of Crushed Curry with the Labels Collection Framelits and adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My snowflake is from the Snowflake Card Thinlits and is cut out from a piece of Brushed Silver and adhered just in the middle with Multi-Purpose Glue. I stamped the tree from the Festival of Trees Stamp Set in Always Artichoke and then heat embossed the garland on the tree with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. For the greeting I choose one from the Christmas Bliss Photopolymer Stamp Set and stamped it in Always Artichoke. A few of the Frosted Sequins scattered around complete the card. I know not everyone is a fan of non-tradiotnal holiday colors but I love to use them, they make for some interesting and fun Holiday cards!

PPA 219-WM

So there you have your Sunday double header! I hope that you enjoyed both my card for the Freshly Made Sketches and the Pals Paper Arts color challenge. I love sharing my days with all of you and love it when you share back! Thank you for spending a little time with me today and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your Sunday! I’m off to Manhattan for a little while this morning to see my friend Kim! :-)

Embellished Gold & Black Wedding

Posted on

All around yesterday was a pretty good day! Work was very nice, all of the people in my department had lunch together for my birthday and they decorated my desk too. I came home and Heather stopped by for a little bit. My friends Brian and Kim had a little get together for me last night. Andrew, Danielle, Taylor, and my friend Stephanie joined us, we had some food and drinks, and Andrew brought his Cards Against Humanity game over. If you have never played this game and are not easily offended, I highly recommend it. We spent about 3 hours gasping and hysterically laughing at the extremely creative cards that they’ve come up with. I say it all the time, but I am quite lucky to have the friends that I have. Sometimes all you need is a small get together to make a birthday perfect. To make a great day even better, all of your birthday wishes brought a big smile to my face. Thank you so much for your kind words!! :-)

*We interrupt this program for a special message.*

Hi folks, Andrew here! Unfortunately, I tried to type up a surprise message for Justin yesterday and WordPress decided not to post it. No worries, though, I’m here today to amend that situation! LOL! I just wanted to wish Justin the happiest of birthdays and say how lucky I am to have him in my life and call him a friend. When everyone else fails to be there, Justin is without a doubt by my side if I need him and I can’t thank him enough for all he does for me. I’m glad that he enjoyed his birthday, and I’m glad I was there to enjoy it with him. LOL! Alright, I’ll keep this short, but especially after WordPress screwed up yesterday (GR!), I had to make sure I hijacked his blog for a birthday wish. Ha ha! Enjoy your day, everyone! :-)

*Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.*

The card that I have for you today is one that my friend Danielle had asked me to make for her. Her and her boyfriend are attending a friend’s wedding today. I have to tell you, it feels much easier to take make a card for someone when you know the person. That being said, here’s what I came up with…

The card base is Very Vanilla Card Stock and my background is a piece of Basic Black. I used some Sticky Strip to adhere a length of the Gold Sequin Trim around the back and then adhered the card to the base with Fast Fuse Adhesive. The two images are from the Embellished Events Stamp Set and are heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Vellum Card Stock. I cut them out with my Paper Snips and adhered them to the card with Multi-Purpose Glue. The greeting is from the “Vintage” Follow My Heart Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Kraft Card Stock and cut out with the Apothecary Accents Framelits; some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it to the card. Wedding cards always need a little more bling, so I adhered some Basic Jewels Rhinestones to the champagne flutes. A nice, simple, elegant wedding card with just the right amount of sparkle! I really like the way the champagne flutes look like actual glasses when they are embossed on the vellum. I hope that you enjoyed my card for today and if you haven’t tried heat embossing on vellum, I don’t know what else to do. LOL! Thanks for stopping by, and have a spectacular Saturday! :-)

Fab Friday 50

Posted on

A very happy Friday to you all! And a happy birthday to me! LOL! When I arrived home from work yesterday, there was a very nice little surprise waiting for me. I got some happy mail, all the way from my friend Carolyn in Australia! She sent me a lovely birthday card and some very delicious Tim-Tams.

Carolyn Birthday Card-WM

Isn’t that a cool card?! She really does make the neatest easel cards. And how appropriate is that mustache? LOL! I was also lucky enough to get my hands on the new iOS 8 software for the iPhone and iPad. I did mine in the morning and Andrew stopped by last night and did his. There are a few new features that are quite neat, like the ability to respond to a text message without leaving the app that you’re in. Siri is also vastly improved and if you have a 5S and your phone is plugged in, you can just say, “Hey Siri”, and she’s ready to go. Pretty cool stuff! My brother just happened to be on his way back from Chicago yesterday and took this very cool picture of the 9/11 Memorial as he was coming into New York and I just had to share it with you.

SouthwestJDK 9-11-2014

You can really see the lights from the memorial and I think the wing in the picture is pretty neat. Pretty strange to think that it’s been 13 years since that tragic day. And I can still tell you exactly what I was doing that entire day. Some things you just never forget.

Now on to happier things, like my card for the Fab Friday challenge. This time around it’s a color challenge…

Fab Fri 50 9-12-2014

Funnily enough, I actually did the card for the next Fab Friday challenge and had to quickly make this one last night. Sometimes my lack of sleep works against me. LOL! I have really been enjoying the Kraft Card Stock, so yes, you will be seeing a lot of that for the next few cards, and the heat embossing continues. The base for my card today is Whisper White Card Stock and I adhered a piece of Kraft to cover the entire front. On top of that is a piece of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum leaving a little bit of the Kraft peeking out the left side. All of the stamps that I used on this card are from the Garden Party Stamp Set. My tag is a piece is a piece of Pool Party and I used the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and the Project Life Corner Rounder to round the bottom corners. The greeting is heat embossed in Calypso Coral Stampin’ Emboss Powder along with the small flowers and they are cut out with my Paper Snips. The larger flowers are heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and again, cut out with Paper Snips. Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the tag and a piece of Gold 5/8″ Satin Ribbon is threaded through the top of the tag and a piece of Gold Baker’s Twine is tied around it. To finish off the card, I put two strips of the Beach House Washi Tape on a diagonal in the upper right hand corner. Again, loving the Kraft Card Stock and I like the way the gold looks with the Pool Party and Calypso Coral. And there you have the correct card for the Fab Friday color challenge this time around. Take a few minutes to visit the blog and see what the other designers have come up with. And if you have a minute, make a card and upload it to the gallery so we can see your take on the color challenge. I hope that you enjoyed today’s post. Variety is the spice of life! Thanks so much for coming by, and make sure you enjoy your Friday! :-)

Yesterday was just another day, nothing exciting to report. Work was work. I did stop by and see Brian and Kim last night. Brian was nice enough to go and get Carvel. I haven’t had that in forever! Some vanilla soft serve with whipped cream and colored sprinkles. YUM! We are supposed get some rain today and it’s supposed to be in the 80’s. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and that’s good because we are having a little get together at Brian and Kim’s for someone’s birthday! Wonder who it could be?!

My post for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge from Julee Tilman…

Mojo362

I decided to use some colors that I don’t usually use together, I’m loving the Kraft Card Stock and I wanted to see how it would look with Blushing Bride. For my card base I used a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock and I adhered a piece of Kraft Card Stock to cover the entire front. I have been doing that a lot lately, i saves from having to line the inside of the card. The panel in the middle is Blushing Bride and I embossed it with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. For the main panel I used a piece of Basic Black and a strip of the Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper. Across the top is a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon that I cut the edges off of and pulled some threads out. It’s adhered with Fast Fuze. A piece of Gold Baker’s Twine is adhered around the back with some Sticky Strip over the top of the burlap. The feathers (yes, there they are again!) are from the Four Feathers Stamp Set and are heat embossed with Blushing Bride Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Vellum Card Stock and cut out with the Feathers Framelits. I tucked them under the greeting which is from the Itty Bitty Banners Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I cut it and a piece of Kraft out with the Bitty Banners Framelits and adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My butterfly is from Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set and is also heat embossed with Blushing Bride Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Vellum, a glue dot holds him in place. The panel is adhered to the card with more Stampin’ Dimensionals and that completes the card. I love the Kraft, Blushing Bride and Basic Black together. Along with the Burlap it gives the card a nice earthy feel. So that’s my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch., I hope that you enjoyed it and I thank you, as always, for coming by to see me. Enjoy your Thursday peeps, we are almost there! :-)
