Freshly Made Sketches 137 & Bonus!

Posted on

I was hoping that Friday would be a nice easy day but alas that was not meant to be. They are building out he warehouse at work and my department got to move boxes around all day. I haven’t been to the gym in a while but I definitely feel like I went yesterday! It was overcast all day and rained last night. I did go to IHOP with Anthony and Bill for dinner. I haven’t had IHOP in ages. I was good and got the low calories pancake and eggs. I do love  a little breakfast for dinner! I came home and watched a movie and then just relaxed. It was a good way to end a busy day. What do all of you have planned for this long weekend? I’m playing it by ear. 🙂

I have my Freshly Made Sketches sketches card for this week’s challenge for you today. There is also a bonus card at the end of the post! This week’s sketch is given to us by Jen M….

Freshly Made Sketches #137

A very simple sketch so I stayed true to it with my card. The base is Whisper White Card Stock and the background is a piece of Hello Honey that I embossed with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Across the lower part of the card is a piece of Moonlight Designer Series Paper. I love how nicely the embossing folder and the paper go together. My greeting is from the Everyday Occasions Card Making Kit and is stamped in Lost Lagoon. I used the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits to cut it out. It’s backed with some Basic Gray and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Two butterflies that I punched out from Lost Lagoon with the Bitty Butterfly Punch are adhered to the right of the greeting. Simple card with some of my favorite new In-Colors and DSP. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Scroll down a little to see my extra card for you for today. Thank you so much for dropping by, have a great Saturday! 🙂

  1. I think the Decorative Dots EB is so fun and it pairs perfectly with the new Moonlight DSP. Very nice congrats card. Your bonus card is divine. Liking the fussy cut popped up flowers and the bling bling sequins. The washi tape is a nice touch. I have a box full of the stuff but fail to use it like I should. Hope to have a relaxing weekend. Maybe some outdoor work in my veggie garden and flower bed. Whatever you do by ‘playing it by ear’ (how do you do that by the way? LOL) hope it’s all good.

    • Thank you Lisa! Yes, I really like the way they EF and the DSP coordinate! I too need to use my Washi Tape more. I have to say that I like the Watercolor Wonder the best out of all that we have had. Have fun in your garden! Just seeing if anything comes along, if not I’m good with that too! Enjoy! 🙂

Am warming up to the new Hello Honey. Love Lost Lagoon!! Glad to see one of the Project Life framelits used; what interesting edges! The gold touches on the bonus card adds a bright spot (and stripe!) to the card. Enjoy your three day weekend!!

    • Glad to see you are liking Honey more and Lost Lagoon, that was love at first sight! I love a little gold! I hope that your weekend is nice too! 🙂

  3. Nice card duo today Justin and who doesn’t like a “little extra”? I hate to admit it but this is the first time I have really liked the “in” colors. Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon look fabulous together – rather dramatic I think. The simplicity of your first card is wonderful. One of my favorite phrases is “kISS”! Nice job. I’m sure your friend loved the birthday card. Of course you know I think the gold strip really made the card outstanding. I’m kind of like a kitten – I’m attracted to all shiny things………….LOL

    • Thank you Grace! Yes, we all like a little extra! I actually really like the In-Colors for the past few years. This years are definitely bold! LOL! I’ll have to remember the kitten reference! Do you also enjoy a ball of yarn?! LOL! Have a wonderful day! 🙂

  4. Good morning Justin! I love your congrats card and like many others, I at first thought “these colors are so much like colors we already have”. But I’ve seen posts where the bloggers have compared the current colors to these, and there really is a difference. I am IN LOVE with the Moonlight DS pack and your take with the embossing folder and that paper really works! Your 2nd card is absolutely wonderful! I love how you popped up the florals, and that washi tape is just the ticket! I never used washi tape before, but did so on some “man” cards at my stamp camp this month, and they were a huge hit! The watercolor washi (all 3) work so well… have you seen the new washi tape in the new catalog? Oh my! I can see a lot of washi stuff in my future! Great cards today Justin! Hope you have a safe, relaxing, but fun, holiday weekend. Me? I don’t go back to work until Wednesday! YAY ME ! Hugs!

    • Good Morning Bobbi!
Thank you! I too thought the colors were similar until I got them in my hands, they definitely are different! I’m with you on the Moonlight DSP, great colors and patterns! A little fussy cutting and some Dimensionals go a long way! I have seen the new Washi Tape and can’t wait to get it! I hope that you have a wonderful extra long weekend! I’m jealous!! 😉

  5. Fabulous cards, Justin! I love how the dots embossing folder works with the dsp on the first one, and I’m so glad they brought it back after Sale-a-Bration. I’m with you — I love breakfast for dinner. Have a great weekend!

  6. Love, love , love your second card, love the popped flowers and the washi tape just adds a little extra touch. Lost lagoon pais with anything, love that color.

I need to get into my garden and get those vegis in, then flower pots. Nothing special planned, just a relaxing and well deserved three day weekend!

    • Thank you Linda! I need to remember to use my Washi Tape more! Lost Lagoon is just a great color! Sounds like you have a great weekend planned! 🙂

  7. Hi there Justin! Happy long weekend! Hope yours is off to a great start! I love your cards today. I know I say that everyday but I really do like your style of card-making. 😉 Your bonus card is so pretty…and there you go fussy-cutting again! It looks gorgeous! I’m going to finish up planting my flower pots. We have a birthday party tomorrow so that’ll be fun and nothing on for Monday…yet! We are supposed to get rain on Monday so we don’t have any plans. Hmm…maybe go out for breakfast! Oh-I LOVE breakfast for dinner. Have a great day and thanks again for the lovely cards…you are wonderful at your craft!!

    • Hello Karen!
Happy long weekend to you too! My weekend has been filled with friends, so yes, it’s off to great start! I can tell you that I never get tired of hearing that from you! Yes, I do enjoy some fussy cutting! I hope that you got all of you planting done and that you have a great time at your birthday party tomorrow! The rest of our weekend is supposed to be good. I think I will craft a little in the morning and then see what the afternoon brings. I too enjoy a little breakfast for dinner! Here’s to a great rest of the weekend! 🙂

  8. A couple of very nice cards, Justin! Enjoy the long weekend!!!

  9. Hi Justin, love both cards! The bonus card uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Happy Watercolor. I also love the colors you choose, the Washi tape is and Gold Foil are the perfect additions! In the first card, I like how you used the PL Framelits, they are perfect here! And of course I love the colors! I didn’t think I could like the New In Colors as much as last years, but I sure do!
I am in Cleveland until Wednesday. My trip down here was a bit hairy, in the first hour I was hit on the turnpike, in a severe weather situation (Golf sized hail!) and to top it all off, when I stopped to take a breather and recoup, I order my Starbucks, just to have the power go out! And they were not on the back up generator! Oh well, the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful, thank goodness!
I have gone to 2 Rib cook offs already and it is only Saturday!!! The weather has been fantastic! Low 70’s and 80’s starting tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the Memorial Service at the National Cemetery that my Dad is buried at, it is a always a very moving service.
    Hope your Saturday was good!

    • Hello Donna!
Thank you! I love Happy Watercolor too and am a little bummed that it didn’t carry over. Sometimes I just sit there and see what greetings go with which Framelits/Punches! Fun right?! LOL! I have really loved the In-Colors for the past three years.
Oh no! golf ball sized hail!! That’s not good at all! Then the power stopping you from getting Starbucks?!?! Yikes! I would thank that rest of the trip being uneventful was very welcome at that point! Mmmm… ribs! The memorial service sounds nice, it’s good to remember. I had a nice Saturday and hope that the rest of your weekend is free from acts of nature! 🙂

  10. I LOVE your cards. They are gorgeous.

  11. Fabulous use of the sketch! I always love the butterflies! And your bonus card is lovely!
