Freshly Made Sketches 151

Posted on

It’s so nice when Sunday rolls around and you realize that tomorrow is not a work Monday! Wee! I had a lovely day yesterday, I took the advice of a friend and sat outside with my coffee and laptop and relaxed and enjoyed the outdoors in the morning. Around 12:30 Sandy stopped by and we had some lunch. She brought a yummy Italian hero with her from a deli near her house. After lunch we headed to the Animal Shelter in Babylon to see if they had any news about her cat Oreo. He went missing at the beginning of August, but we still hope that he will turn up. The lady at the shelter told us that her cat was gone for a year! She said that she thinks that he was on vacation in the Hamptons! LOL! I hope that Oreo does come back. After the shelter we stopped at a scrapbook store and had nice chat with the lady that worked there. She asked if I we might be interested in teaching card classes, now that would be fun! I’ll keep you posted as to what becomes of that. I ran to Michaels when I got home and picked up some supplies, I want to start working on multimedia projects, I’ll keep you posted on them too! For dinner, I met my friend Maureen at Friday’s and then we ran to Walmart. Not an overly exciting day but I enjoyed it!

The post that I have for you today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. This week’s sketch is provided by their Guest Designer Kim…

Freshly Made Sketches #151

I sort of took a little creative license with the sketch, I have wanted to use a new stamp set that I got and this seemed to work for it! My card begins with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock. The background is a piece of Sahara Sand that I embossed with my favorite, the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I sponged on some Soft Suede to make the grain stand out. All of the images are from the Yee Haw! Photopolymer Stamp Set, and yes they are all cut out with my Paper Snips, including the barb wire! I stamped them all in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them in with my Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers. The barb wire is stamped on Smoky Slate. The lasso with the greeting are adhered to the card with SNAIL and all of the other elements are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really like the Yee Haw! Stamp Set, so many fun western images and I think it goes perfect with the Woodgrain EF! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂

Hi Justin, what a cute card…your take on this sketch is great and so is your blendability coloring. You and Sandy would be wonderful at those card making classes….the shop owner would be lucky to have you. I am excited to see the multimedia projects you create. Have a happy Sunday.

Happy middle of the long weekend! Isn’t that great? I think your classes would be a huge success…. I would definitely sign up if I were closer.
Great card but I would never have that kind of patience! WOW.
I had read about Oreo; so sad that he has not been found yet. Fingers crossed that he eventually will reappear. Enjoy your Sunday. BTW…. I have not spotted any photos of the Galley? I thought maybe I had missed them while I was too busy with the move at work (serves me right too… As expected the new boss wants to terminate my employment and put me on contract….)
    Have a super day Justin!

LOL! You know I love a little fussy cutting! The barb wore was a bit much but it’s looks cool!
Yes, I hope that Oreo comes back, I love that little kitty! I have not posted any photos of the Galley yet, I still need to organize, creating gets in the way of that! LOL! I can’t believe that they did that to you at your job! They should get into big trouble for that!!Jerks!
You enjoy your day too!! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin! LOVE the feathers!! 😉 Great card today—that stamp set is kind of growing on me. Love how you sponged on the woodgrain ef…it really does pop! I can’t believe all the fussy-cutting you did on this. You do such a great job on that…a steady hand for sure. Glad you had a nice day yesterday. I sure hope Oreo finds his way back to Sandy. Maybe he just had to sow some oats…he’ll realize that the grass isn’t greener on the other side! 😉 Have an awesome day…heading out to breakfast/brunch with family and friends…yummy!

It’s always nice to have a good balance in a day and yesterday was just that! I too hope that Oreo comes home, Sandy misses him so much. He definitely had it good there!! 5. Thanks for a fun day yesterday, Justin! Love your card, it is just too adorable. May I ask where you got the wooden spool for the baker’s twine?

  6. I’ve got to tell you Justin that I always read the description of your card before I scroll down to actually see it. Sometimes my mind’s image is right on the mark and other times it’s way off………….on those days it’s always an “oh really!” kind of moment. Today was definitely an “oh really” day for sure! I must have skipped over the Yee-Haw stamp set completely. I just love this card. Perfect for a little boys anything……..thank you, birthday, first day of kindergarten – anything. I am always impressed with the way you get that wood grain from the EF to look so perfect. One of these days I’ll get the knack of how to do just the right amount of sponging. Until then I’ll just drool over your cards. Enjoy yourself today and tomorrow. Next week will fly by with only four days.

    • LOL! I love that you read the desertion first and try to get a picture in your mind and see if it matches up Grace! It really is a fun Stamp Set and would definitely be great for kids! It has taken lots of practice to get it sponged just right, trust me! Thank you!! I have been having a lazy day and am going into the city tonight. Yes, the week will go nice and fast! I hope that you have a wonderful day!! 🙂

    • I actually did go to Target late last night now that you mention it Sonny! It was a great day! Thank you! It was a fun card to make!! Yes, there are a few people that I can count on to notice when I change little things on the blog and you are one of them! I was trying to change them once a month, I skipped a few for the summer, but I think I will go back to monthly now. I appreciate you checking for Oreo, cats have gone further you know! Happy Sunday to you too! 🙂

I’m hoping the class works out! 🙂

  10. Another fantastic card and all that fussy cutting! Great job. I love the blendabilities, so easy to use and you can get so creative with them. A few years ago I took a copics class and was so overwhelmed by them that I really stayed away. I am so happy that SU has brought us these wonderful products- they are so “user” friendly and it is almost impossible to make a mistake with them.
Being a huge animal lover- my heart goes out to Sandy and I hope that Oreo is returned safely. They really are a part of our family and it is heart wrenching when they disappear.
Love the long weekends too- take care Justin.

    • Thanks very much Marty! Yes, lots of fussy cutting, my fave! The Blendabilities are definitely user friendly but I have to admit that I am intrigued by colics now and have gotten a few. They definitely work a little differently. Ours are definitely awesome though!
I hope that Oreo comes back, she is really missing him. He’s such a great cat with an interesting personality. The weekend is never long enough! LOL! 🙂

    • Thanks so much Lynne! Yes, it’s definitely a fun set and we don’t have much western! I’m jealous that long weekends don’t mean anything to you anymore! LOL! 🙂

  12. Cute card, especially for kids or males. Any day day that includes a visit to a Scrapbook store is a perfect day in my book.

My creativity this weekend has taken me to my sewing machine and I’ve been quilting. I hope to get some papercrafting done but we shall see.

    Take care

    • Thank you very much Linda! It’s a really nice set. Yes, I agree, I love looking at all of the stuff! Good for inspiration too!
I give a lot of credit to quilters, that is not an easy task! I need to learn how to sew on cards. It’s not rocket science but I don’t get the sewing machine! LOL!
      Enjoy your creativity!

  15. Very cute card!! Will be passing this one onto a friend. She is always looking for a western theme on her cards. I will be taking a well day off today. Our small town had their Fun Fest and I was in charge of the Crafter show 2 day event this year! Anyone who knows me this does not surprise them to see me chairing the show!! On my feet for two days and planning on or rather hoping to clean my craft room. Have a great Labor Day too!!

    • Thanks Kathy! The stamp set is great, we needed something western and fun! Wow! Good for you for chairing the craft show! I would have done the same thing! I’m sure that it was a big hit and I hope that you enjoyed your day of rest! 🙂

  16. Justin, I love so much how you always tell about your day. I find everything you do fascinating and love how you get to spend so much time with your friends. Coming from a small town, most of my friends are married and do their own thing. I think I will have to move to NY just to hang out with you. I absolutely love your card and didn’t even give it a thought to buying this set until I saw what you did with it, although I am not a fan of hand cutting. I have a son in law who lives in Texas and I think now I need this set to make him a birthday card.

I would be happy to have you in my circle, we would have a blast! The stamp set is just really cool and I love to fussy cut, I could;t even leave the barb wire alone! LOL! It’s definitely the perfect set for a Texan! I hope you had a nice day! 🙂
