Sweet Butterfly Sorbet

Posted on

Happy day it stays lighter longer! Did you all remember to set your clocks forward one hour? I did, but I still made sure that I got the hour sleep! Yesterday was a clean the house and organize the craft area day. I did that for a good part of the morning but then I had to go out for a bit, it was in the upper 50’s here yesterday. A little ride around in the convertible made me very happy! Last night I watched the Hunger Games – Catching Fire, it was a great movie, even better than the first one. I can’t wait for the next one!! How is your weekend going so far?

Today I have a nice simple card for you. I do love a negative punch and I haven’t used butterflies in a while. My card base starts off with a piece of Sahara Sand Card Stock and the background is a piece of Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper cut smaller to let the sides show. For the greeting I stamped one of the sentiments from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set in Basic Black using my Stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement! I then used the Elegant Butterfly punch and the Bitty Butterfly punch out some Basic Black. The Circles Collection Framelits are then used to cut each of the negative butterfly punches out. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals give them some lift and hold them to the card base. Simple but I love the pop of the black against the fun Sweet Sorbet DSP! Thanks for stopping by to see my card for today, I appreciate your time and wish you all very nice Sunday! 🙂

  1. Great card, Justin! Love the use of negative space, and the black really makes the colors behind pop. Have an awesome day!

  2. Good morning Justin. Great idea to use the negative images and boy, they really pop in the black. Terrific look. I use the negative punched paper a lot but only as stencils. Now that I have seen how you used them I’ll have to rethink before throwing them out in the trash. Super card.

Your weather was nicer than ours for sure. We never did reach 40 yesterday and they are talking about the possibility of a decent size storm Wednesday night into Thursday. I sure hope they are wrong as even I, the Snow Queen, have had enough winter this year! LOL Enjoy your Sunday!

    • Good morning Grace!
Yes, I don’t use black enough but it really does pop! I use them as stencils too, but I will start using them more as actual pieces.
We did get lucky with the weather yesterday! It was beautiful, today it’s cold again. We are to get some snow again next week and be in the 20’s. I’m so over all of the is winter stuff, come on spring!
Have a great Sunday my friend! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin! I love the black with the sherbet colors. Using the different sizes of butterfly punches was the perfect touch. We are supposed to get “snow showers” on Wednesday night, just in time for us to go out to a meeting. Ugh! In like a lion, stay like a lion…the lamb is lost out there…hmmm, I hear a card theme in this! Have a great Sunday and a quick, uneventful yet creative week. Nancy B

  4. I love the negative look too. Don’t use the technique as much as I should. Such a nice and simple card today. Such a happy day, the sun is shining! Suppose to hit 50 tomorrow where I live in Ohio. Woot Woot! So much snow will be melting away.

    • Thank you Lisa! I need to use the negative technique more too! It’s sunny here too but not as warm as yesterday. Go you with your 50! I think we will have snow here until July! Enjoy your day! 🙂

  5. Hi Justin,
Great Card! I love the use of the negative space, the dsp and black just pop off each other!
We had beautiful weather here yesterday also, I live in the Philly area, and it is beautiful (looking!) today! A bit chilly but I did see more days in the 40’s and 50’s this week so that makes me smile!
I need to do the housework, craft area clean up also. I have been experimenting with Mixed Media Canvas’ and now my craft area looks a little worse for wear! But I am loving working with the canvas and just being creative!
Hope your Sunday is a good one,
    Donna

    • Hello Donna!
Thank you! I tried a few different colors for the butterflies and black just looked the best. I’m glad that you had good weather too! It’s a bit chilly here today too, but not too bad. I was good and cleaned a little yesterday. I’m really interested in your mixed media canvas. It’s something that I have looked into but never was brave enough to try. I had a nice day and hope that you did too! 🙂
